Arthritis Repair Day Proclamation

Purpose and Mission

The purpose and mission of Arthritis Repair Day is to help prevent and alleviate disability related to Arthritis, Osteoporosis, and Autoimmune diseases.

We are committed and prepared to help lessen the rheumatology crisis in our geographic area.

The center reaches out to healthcare professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers and physical/ occupational therapists by providing educational opportunities with CME/CEU credits offered in the field of rheumatology.

Through outreach to nurse practitioners and physician assistants, we are making them aware of the need and opportunities in rheumatology.  A significant difference can and will be made in the supply and demand of rheumatology caregivers.

Facts about Arthritis

About 1 in 4 adults in Alabama reported doctor diagnosed arthritis

Doctor-diagnosed arthritis is more common in women (32%) than in men (23%)

Doctor-diagnosed arthritis is more common in whites (31%) and blacks (24%) than Hispanics (15%)

Among race and sex demographics, white females have the highest prevalence of doctor diagnosed arthritis (35%) and black males have the lowest (18%)

Objectives of Arthritis Repair Day

Decrease pain and suffering due to arthritis. Assist with early diagnosis and  treatment of arthritis by educating individuals regarding the different types of arthritis and the fact that treatment options are available.

Provide  educational seminars and workshops to health care professionals and offer CME (continuing medical education) units and CEU’s (continuing educational units). Provide educational seminars to the public by way of health and wellness fairs and faith based events.

There are more than 100 different types of arthritis to include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Gout, and Lupus. Doctor diagnosed arthritis is defined as having been diagnosed with arthritis or other rheumatic conditions by a physician or health professional.

Arthritis is a leading cause of disability in Alabama is arthritis.
